Richardson Issues Statement on Impeachment

September 1, 2020
Tracy M. Richardson News

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) today issued the following statement:

Over the last few months, the governor and legislature have had some disagreements over the governor’s use of state health orders during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the disagreements are serious, they seemingly do not rise to the level of impeachment as described in the Ohio Constitution.”

“This global pandemic has had a dramatic impact on virtually every aspect of our lives. I am continuing to focus my time and energy on helping Ohio navigate this unprecedented chapter in our state’s history. We need to revive our businesses, help get people working again and return our kids safely back to school. Here are some of the steps I have taken to help:

I have voted to increase legislative input and oversight of state health orders and to protect businesses, schools and health care workers from frivolous COVID-19-related lawsuits.

I have voted to support an amendment to SB 1. The bill ensures a check and balance so that the director of health/Governor, after a given period of time, would need to work with a small team of leaders from the General Assembly in order to extend executive orders.

I have supported and voted on a Senate amendment made to HB 272.  This will prohibit a public official from ordering the closure of all places of worship in a geographic area, and to prohibit a public official from changing the time, place, or manner of conducting an election.

I have helped get federal dollars into the hands of local governments and local schools to address the challenges posed by the coronavirus.

My legislation to reform Ohio’s unemployment application process passed the Ohio House and is pending in the Ohio Senate.”

“To keep Ohio moving forward, issues like these and more are where I believe the legislature should be focusing its time and energy.”
