Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today voted in opposition to two bills opponents say would make schools and communities less safe and fail to address gun violence in Ohio. House Bill (HB) 99 would allow school districts to arm teachers in the classroom without adequate training or safe storage requirements, while HB 227 would eliminate concealed weapon training and safety standards, including penalties for failing to notify police of a concealed weapon during a stop.

COLUMBUS— State Reps. Janine Boyd (D-Cleveland Heights) and Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today introduced House Bill (HB) 491, which would establish the Ohio Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program and provide economic stability to working families during such instances as medical emergencies, caring for sick loved ones, or welcoming a newborn into the family.  It would also provide an employee with paid bereavement leave for a stillbirth or the death of a child. Democrats previously introduced paid family leave in the 132nd and 133rd General Assemblies.

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington), Ranking Member on the House Health Committee, and Rep. Beth Liston (D-Dublin) issued statements today after Republicans forced the House Health Committee passage of House Bill (HB) 435, anti-vaccine legislation that would expand exemptions for students and public or private employees required to get the COVID-19 vaccine. HB 435 would also grant corporations partial legal immunity from COVID-19 related law suits. The bill was passed along party lines with no opportunity for proponent or opponent testimony.
