COLUMBUS – Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) today announced state Controlling Board approval for another round of federal funding to support Ohio’s efforts to control the COVID-19 outbreak as school districts prepare for fall semester.

State Reps. Paula Hicks-Hudson (D-Toledo) and Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) responded to Secretary LaRose’s announcement that he is requesting additional permission from the state Controlling Board to pay return postage for voting materials. The deadline for submitting such requests was Monday, Aug. 17 for the Board’s Aug. 24 meeting. No request from LaRose’s office appears yet on the Controlling Board’s website. It is unclear whether the late request will be added to the meeting agenda or what specifically is being requested.  

The House Democratic Caucus today sent a letter to Secretary of State Frank LaRose addressing recent major developments in Ohio’s elections. Last week, the country watched in horror as Post Office mailboxes and processing machinery were dismantled and removed across the country and in Ohio.

State Representative Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) responded to Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s announcement that he will not allow multiple secure ballot drop boxes to be used by county boards of elections in this fall’s election.

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) issueda statement today as the Ohio House voted unanimously to strip Larry Householder (R-Glenford) of his role as Speaker of the House. Householder and four associates were indicted by a federal grand jury today amid an ongoing FBI criminal investigation into his connection to an alleged $60 million public corruption and bribery scheme—the largest in state history.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY—Today, Rep. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) and 14 other Cuyahoga-area lawmakers sent a bipartisan letter to members of Congress urging them to give local governments the flexibility to use relief funds more broadly, and to authorize that those funds may be used to make up for lost revenue. TheCoronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act passed by Congress in March gave Ohio a total of $4.5 billion dollars for its state and local governments. The state still has a little over $2 billion dollars that have yet to be appropriated. It is the delegation’s hope that Congress will provide flexibility so that any remaining or additional funds might be used as effectively as possible.

Reps. Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Cleveland) and Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today called for hearings on House Bill 739, anti-corruption legislation that would require dark money groups to identify their funders and disclose their spending. The bill would also strengthen restrictions against foreign corporations and foreign governments influencing Ohio elections. Sweeney and Russo introduced the bill earlier this week.
