Biography
State Representative Dan Dodd (D-91st District) is proud to serve the area that helped raise him. The New Lexington native represents Perry and Hocking Counties, and parts of Licking and Pickaway Counties in the Ohio House of Representatives.
Rep. Dodd learned the values of hard work, integrity and fairness from his parents, Robert and Mary. Rep. Dodd delivered the Zanesville Times Recorder and later worked at McDonald’s in New Lexington as a youth. He fit those jobs around his classwork at St. Rose School in New Lexington and Bishop Rosecrans High School in Zanesville.
His interest in the law coupled with his passion for politics as a college student. In 1998, Rep. Dodd served in Washington, D.C. as an intern for Ohio U.S. Senator John Glenn. The internship gave Dodd a first-hand look at how legislators can help constituents by listening carefully to their problems, then developing common sense solutions.
Dodd earned a bachelor of arts in history and political science from Villanova University in 2000, and then attended the University of Cincinnati College of Law. While in Cincinnati, Rep. Dodd served as a fellow at the Urban Justice Institute in 2002-2003, participating in the Institute’s efforts to persuade the Ohio General Assembly to ratify the 14th Amendment, more than 135 years after state legislators rescinded Ohio’s ratification.
Before his election to the Ohio House in 2006, Rep. Dodd worked as an attorney for Robert J. Dodd, Jr. Co. LPA, where he was joined by his father and sister Maureen at law offices in New Lexington, Zanesville, The Plains, and Marietta.
Rep. Dodd is Chairman of the Insurance committee. He also serves on the Veterans Affairs; Agriculture and Natural Resources; and Financial Institutions, Real Estate and Securities committees. He is also a member of the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the National Rifle Association and the Perry County Farm Bureau.
Rep. Dodd lives in Hebron with his wife Stephanie.
