Biography

State Representative Louis Blessing, Jr. has spent more than 25 years in the Ohio Legislature. He returned to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2005 after serving in the Ohio Senate from 1997 to 2004. He also previously served as a state representative from 1983 until 1996. Representative Blessing represents the 29th House District, which includes portions of Hamilton County, and was elected by his colleagues to serve as Assistant Minority Leader of the Ohio House of Representatives.

Representative Blessing graduated from LaSalle High School and attended the University of Cincinnati, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics. He received his law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.

Prior to joining the Legislature, Representative Blessing worked as an attorney in Cincinnati. He also served as Common Pleas Court Referee for the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas and as a Colerain Township Trustee. Additionally, he was a member of the Hamilton County Township Trustees and Clerks Association.

Representative Blessing was named Legislator of the Year by the Hamilton County Township Association and has received the Watchdog of the Treasury award multiple times, most recently in 2000. He remains active in his community through his involvement with St. Ann’s Church, the Hamilton County Republican Central Committee and LaSalle High School.

Representative Blessing and his wife Linda have two sons, Billy and Alex.

Responsibilities

A State Representative is an elected official whose job is to serve as a direct link between those Ohioans he or she was elected to represent and state government. In order to best fulfill this role, a representative responds to constituent concerns and works to provide solutions through legislative action. In order to best serve their constituents, a state representative attends meetings of their local civic, social and business groups in addition to responding to mail, email and telephone correspondence from constituents in their district.

The Assistant Minority Leader is elected by all members of the House and assists the Minority Leader in development and implementation of the agenda for the party in the minority.
