Biography

State Representative Nan Baker is serving her first term in the Ohio House of Representatives. She represents the 16th House District, which includes Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted, Rocky River and Westlake.

Prior to her election to the House, Representative Baker dedicated 18 years to the West Shore Chamber of Commerce serving as past president and member of the board of trustees. She also was elected as a member of the Westlake Board of Education and served three terms on the Westlake City Council.

Representative Baker stays active with her community through her involvement on the Community Advisory Board for St. John West Shore Hospital and as treasurer for the Westlake Lions Club. She is also an active member of Westlake Kiwanis, Westlake/North Olmsted League of Women Voters, Westside Professional Women’s Connection, Westlake Republican Club, Westlake/Westshore Arts Council and the Lakewood Elks.

Representative Baker has been honored with numerous awards throughout her career in public service. In 1999, she was named Honored Woman of the Year by the Westlake/North Olmsted League of Women Voters. She has also been given the Cleveland State University David C. Sweet Award bestowed on distinguished alumni for elected service and the West Shore Chamber of Commerce Hugh Dawson Award in recognition of outstanding service to the business community.

Representative Baker holds an associate degree in business from Lorain County Community College, a Bachelor of Arts from Baldwin Wallace College and is a graduate of the Leadership Academy of Cleveland State University’s College of Urban Studies.

Representative Baker and her husband have been married for 34 years. They have three adult children and reside in Westlake.

Responsibilities

A State Representative is an elected official whose job is to serve as a direct link between those Ohioans he or she was elected to represent and state government. In order to best fulfill this role, a representative responds to constituent concerns and works to provide solutions through legislative action. In order to best serve their constituents, a state representative attends meetings of their local civic, social and business groups in addition to responding to mail, email and telephone correspondence from constituents in their district.
